Blade Runner 2 title revealed

It’s official - the ‘Blade Runner’ sequel is titled ‘Blade Runner 2049’.

The upcoming ‘Blade Runner’ sequel is just a year away, and it seems now’s a good time to get the official title: ‘Blade Runner 2049’. Conjuring up images of a futuristic cityscape just like the original, it feels like a rather fitting title. And it also gives us a sense of how it fits in with the rest of the ‘Blade Runner’ universe.

After all, the original was set in 2019… so this is exactly 30 years later.

But perhaps that was obvious.

I mean, let’s face it - since the original ‘Blade Runner’ was released in 1982, Harrison Ford has aged 34 years… so that just about fits the new movie’s timeframe. But how will director Denis Villeneuve explain his ageing?

It’s been confirmed time and time again that Rickard - Harrison Ford’s iconic Blade Runner - was a replicant. That means the old Blade Runner had a finite shelf life… but if anyone was going to find a way around that, it was going to be Harrison Ford.

Along with the new title, Alcon Entertainment also released a cool logo.

Unfortunately, story details remain firmly under wraps. So that means plenty of speculation about what’s going to happen when ‘Blade Runner 2049’ appears in cinemas. But there’s one thing we do know - Harrison Ford is back.

And that makes us very, very excited.

‘Blade Runner 2049’ will star Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri, Mackenzie Davis, Barkhad Abdi, Dave Bautista, Lennie James David Dastmalchian and Hiam Abbass.

Denis Villeneuve will direct based on a screenplay by Ridley Scott and Hampton Fancher.

‘Blade Runner 2049’ heads to cinemas on 6 October 2017.
