'Black Widow' is 'done running' in the final trailer for Scarlett Johansson's solo Marvel movie

Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow is out to clear the red from her ledger in the new trailer for her solo Marvel Studios adventure, coming to cinemas in May.

As the new trailer shows, Black Widow sees Avengers hero Natasha Romanoff reuniting with her “family” as she attempts to track down a new villain with the codename Taskmaster.

According to Black Widow’s surrogate sister Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Taskmaster now “controls the Red Room”, the training facility that turned Natasha into the deadly killing machine we know and fear, and has trained an army of assassins who are “fully conscious” but can make “no choices”.

“We have to go back to where it all started,” Johansson explains in voice over during the trailer for the film which is set before the events of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, “so they never do that to anyone again.”

Who the Taskmaster really is remains a mystery. The villain who can mimic any superheroes moves after seeing them in action just once does not have an actor listed as playing them on IMDb, leading fans to speculate that the film’s antagonist must be hiding in plain sight.

Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle and Rachel Weisz all star in the film, directed by Cate Shortland, but which one of those is the film’s true villain we’ll have to wait and see.

Along with the new trailer, Marvel Studios has also issued the new poster for the film below.

Black Widow comes to cinemas on 1 May, 2020.
