Black Panther Plot Will See T'Challa Face A Challenge To His Crown

‘Black Panther’ star Lupita Nyong'o has revealed the first plot details from the upcoming Marvel solo adventure.

The actress, who will play a member of T'Challa’s female bodyguard team the Dora Milaje, revealed a basic synopsis to a Marvel.com correspondent at San Diego Comic Con.

“The story of this ‘Black Panther’ is - what am I allowed to say?,” said the Oscar-winner tentatively.

“The story is that the Black Panther’s leadership is really threatened by two foes who come together, and so Black Panther gets the help of the C.I.A. and the Dora Milaje to try and defeat the enemy.”

The big reveal here is that there will be two villains. We know one will be Michael B Jordan as Erik Killmonger, while the other is a mystery.

Birth Movies Death’s editor-in-chief and comic book aficionado Devin Faraci believes Nyong'o’s character Nakia could be that villain.

“Nakia in the comics isn’t just a member of the Dora Milaje,” he writes. “She is a member of the Dora Milaje who is in love with T'Challa but cannot marry him, and she ends up kicked out of the security force after she tries to kill Panther’s girlfriend.

"She ends up crossing paths with none other than Killmonger, who saves her life and renames her 'Malice.’ Under that identity she becomes a villain who uses a toxic herb that makes men obsessed with and obedient to her.”

If nothing else, it makes the actress a leading candidate to be that second villain.

Whoever the second villain is, they and Jordan will face off with Black Panther himself Chadwick Boseman, who was introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and became king of his native Wakanda) in 'Captain America: Civil War’.

Martin Freeman will reprise his role from ‘Civil War’ as well. He played Everett Ross of the CIA, and will likely be who T’Challa seeks help from. The film will also star ‘The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira as the leader of the Dora Milaje.

'Creed’s Ryan Coogler will write and direct the film, which is set for release on 6 July 2018.
