Many of us have already celebrated or are set to celebrate a birthday in lockdown. It’s unavoidable with so many of the UK population celebrating birthdays in the spring months.

But that doesn’t mean the day can’t be made special.

Flour may be in short supply in supermarkets but there are multiple companies who offer cake delivery services, should you wish to treat a loved one to a sweet treat on their big day.

Lola’s Cupcakes is a popular shopping destination for those looking for a sweet treat.

The brand has a variety of options for customers to choose from, including classic cakes, free from treats, naked cakes, as well as party cakes, giant cupcakes, cheesecakes, numbered designs, cakes in the shape of animal faces or creations with more intricate decorations on top.

Lola’s are still delivering to addresses in London, Birmingham, Slough, Reading, Hemel Hempstead, Oxford, Guildford, Stevenage and Luton, from 7am to 10pm seven days a week during the pandemic.

Delivery costs vary from £6.99 for all day slots, £7.99 for evening delivery, or £8.99 for morning and afternoon arrivals.

The company have created everything from classic Victoria sponge birthday cakes, to a selection of fondant fancies, as well as an ornate chocolate ruffle cake, and personalised creations too.

While Bettys is still delivering, it has warned there may be a slight detail due to the pandemic, and they do not deliver to Scottish highlands.

The cost of delivery varies; for Standard Delivery there will be an extra fee of £3.95, Named Day delivery costs £6.95, Named Day delivery before 12pm is £9.95, while Saturday Delivery will cost £12.95, but all options are tracked.

While the Billionaire Cake is their bestseller, they also offer a variety of other birthday cakes, including a unicorn-shaped design, naked cakes, as well as alternative vegan options, in a whole host of flavours from classic, to raspberry ripple, Eton mess to salted caramel.

Plus, they offer customer the option to personalise their cake with a message of up to 25 characters.

Cutter and Squidge have closed their store but are still delivering goods to anywhere in the M25 for an added cost of £9.

Sponge offers a range of birthday cakes, for kids, as well as adults. They can create anything from letter cakes, creations with a photo on the top, as well as other personalised designs, and vegan or gluten free alternatives.

Due to coronavirus Sponge has reduced their delivery days to three days, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and there is a selection of postage options for customers to choose from.

Sponge Club Members, or orders over £27.50 are eligible for free delivery, if you order before 2pm and want standard weekday delivery a charge of £4.95 will be added to your order, while Saturday delivery will cost £3.95.

Plus they have dairy free, vegan, gluten free and other alternative cake options to suit everyone’s dietary requirements.

What we love most is Bakerdays also has the option to buy a birthday set complete with either a balloon, card and cake or stuffed toy, which will no doubt cheer up those celebrating their birthday in lockdown.

Unlike some other confectionary companies Bakerdays are offering Free Delivery on select UK deliveries; including All Day and Next Day Delivery.

While those who want their purchase delivered before 12.30pm will cost £12, while those wanting their cake delivered before 10am will be charged £15.
