Big Hero 6 Returning As A TV Series

‘Big Hero 6′ fans can rejoice, because Disney have announced plans for an animated television show that will revolve around Baymax, Hiro and their posse.

‘Big Hero 6’s’ small-screen adaptation is still in the early stages of development, but the current plan is for it to premiere on Disney XD at some point in 2017.

Disney and Marvel have also confirmed that the series will pick up immediately where the Academy Award winner for Best Animated Feature left off, adding that 14-year-old Hiro has become a hero figure at the San Fransokyo Institute Of Technology because of his antics alongside Baymax in ‘Big Hero 6′.

The brief synopsis also notes that while Hiro faces ”daunting academic challenges and social trials of being the little man on campus. Off campus, the stakes are raised for the high-tech heroes as they must protect their city from an array of scientifically enhanced villains.”

It’s not just Hiro and Baymax that are returning for the TV series though, because the other members of ‘Big Hero 6′ – Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred, and Go Go – will also feature just as prominently.

What remains to be seen is who will return in the vocal roles. But it has already been confirmed that Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley, who previously created Disney’s hit series ‘Kim Possible’, will executively produce.

Disney Channels Worldwide president Gary Marsh insisted to Entertainment Weekly that the ‘Big Hero 6′ TV series is filled with the same “vivid, unique characters” that will be developed in a “world class animated series – full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob – and Baymax – can deliver.”

Unfortunately, the revelation that ‘Big Hero 6′ will have an animated TV series that picks up straight where the movie finished throws into question whether a sequel to the 2014 box office smash will be greenlit, something that Disney, as well as Stan Lee, had previously teased was a distinct possibility.
