‘Big Bang’, ‘Gotham’, ‘Lucifer’, ‘Good Place’ Lead Premiere Monday L3 Ratings Gains

The first Live+3 results for the 2016-17 season are in, and the DVR+VOD lifts are on par with last year.

Like last year, CBS’ The Big Bang Theory logged the largest absolute L+3 gain, +1.6 rating in 18-49 and +4.43 million viewers. That was in line with last fall’s premiere increases, +1.7 and +4.29 million. Year vs. year, Big Bang‘s opener is down -16% in the demo and -10 in viewers. Still, with 20 million+, in its 10th season Big Bang is drawing a massive audience that is rarely seen on television these days and likely won’t be matched by an entertainment program this premiere week.

Fox’s genre combo of Gotham and Lucifer logged the biggest percentage gains on Monday, +54% in 18-49, both dramas rising from a 1.3 Live+same day demo rating to a 2.0. In total viewers, Gotham was up +42% to 5.5 million, while Lucifer is emerging as the more popular overall among the two, up +48% to 6.4 million. Fox is providing multi-platform data, reporting a total audience of 5.9 million for Gotham and 7 million for Lucifer. Last fall, the Gotham season premiere added .9 in L3 to 2.5 and extra 600,000 non-linear viewers for a total premiere audience of 7.3 million. Year vs. year, the Gotham debut is down -20% in 18-49 in L3 and -19% in viewers.

NBC’s new comedy The Good Place broke the tie with CBS’ newbie Kevin Can Wait because of stronger DVR showing. The 10 PM episode of the single-camera, serialized The Good Place grew an impressive for a half-hour +41% in 18-49 (from a 2.6 rating to 3.6) and more than +3.2 million viewers overall (9.1 million to 12.3 million). The Good Place now ranks as the top new comedy series premiere this season though this was part of a special hourlong preview behind The Voice. The Good Place‘s regular-slot debut on Thursday was significantly lower. (The 10:30 Monday episode of The Good Place also added +1.0 or a big 50% in 18-49 to 3.0)

CBS’ multi-camera Kevin Can Wait rose +27% in 18-49 (from 2.6 to 3.3 in 18-49) and +19% in total viewers to 13.2 million.
