Beyoncé Receives an Emotional “Happy Birthday” Performance from Diana Ross
Four years ago, Beyoncé honored living legend Diana Ross by singing a compelling rendition of “Happy Birthday” at her 75th birthday party. Now, Ross has returned the favor.
During Monday's Renaissance World Tour show in Los Angeles's SoFi Stadium, Ross graced the stage to deliver her own rousing performance of “Happy Birthday” in honor of Bey's 42nd birthday, on September 4th.
“I'm here to celebrate Beyoncé's birthday,” Ross said as she made her grand entrance onstage, per Entertainment Weekly. “We want to ask you to put all of your flashlights in the air—high in the air, everybody. We want you to sing 'Happy Birthday' with me, are you ready?”
For the occasion, Ross dressed in a glittering black sequined gown paired with a black feather boa shawl and diamond chandelier earrings.
After Ross's performance, Beyoncé ran back onstage while wearing a sparkling graphic Loewe catsuit (one of her signature Renaissance Tour ensembles). The “Irreplaceable” singer was visibly emotional as she embraced Ross.
“Thank you so much, you are so amazing, this is the legendary Diana Ross,” Bey reportedly told Ross. “Thank you so much for all of your sacrifice and your beauty and your grace, thank you for opening doors for me.”
Ross wasn't the only star who celebrated Beyoncé's birthday with her on Monday. Other A-listers in attendance included Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Kerry Washington, Kelly Rowland, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Timothée Chalamet. Ross's daughter, Tracee Ellis Ross, also attended a show over the weekend.
