Netflix hit a new all-time high on Wall Street on Wednesday morning, one day after the streaming giant reported it topped analyst and company estimates by adding another 8.5 million new subscribers during Q4 2020. The new subscribers pushed Netflix to 203.65 million accounts overall, making it the first company to cross the 200 million subscriber threshold in the process. Both analysts and Netflix itself had projected the company would add around 6 million subscribers during the quarter. Netflix shares immediately moved higher on Wednesday morning, jumping to the company’s new all-time high of $577.77 within the first hour of trading. (Netflix’s stock price had briefly crossed $575 per share last year.) An hour and a half into trading, Netflix’s stock was up 14.2% on the day at $572.92 per share. That put Netflix well on its way to setting a new record closing price as well on Wednesday. Netflix’s previous high at the end of a trading day was set on September 1, 2020, when Netflix shares closed at $556.55. Netflix’s Q4 report, beyond the subscriber figure, gave investors a few more interesting nuggets. Two key takeaways from Netflix’s letter to shareholders on Tuesday: Netflix said it plans on being cash-flow neutral by the end of 2021 and cash-flow positive every year after. (Netflix said its “very close” to being free cash-flow positive after posting -$138 million net cash flow during Q4.) The company also said “we believe we no longer have a need to raise external financing for our day-to-day operations.” Also Read: What Joe Biden's 'Complicated' Ties to Big Tech Mean for Antitrust Crackdowns and Content Moderation On the financial side, Netflix reported earnings per share of $1.19, compared to the $1.36 EPS analysts had projected. Revenue of $6.64 billion matched analyst estimates, although its 21.5% year-over-year sales growth fell short of the 30% year-over-year growth Netflix enjoyed during the same period a year earlier. Investors don’t seem as worried about falling short of Wall Street’s earnings estimates, though, as long as Netflix continues to add subscribers at a healthy rate. Netflix on Tuesday also said it intends to “maintain $10 billion-$15 billion in gross debt” and will “explore” stock buybacks, something the company hasn’t done since 2011. Heading into Q4, Netflix had added 28.1 million subscribers during the first three quarters of 2020, which was already more than the company added in all of 2019. The company finished its record-setting year with 37 million new customers joining the fold, thanks in large part to the coronavirus pandemic, which accelerated the streaming revolution by forcing millions of people to stay inside, sitting on their couches. More than 80% of Netflix’s subscriber gains last year came from outside of North America. Top Netflix releases for Q4 included The Queen’s Gambit, which was one of Netflix’s biggest shows ever and helped spark a digital chess revolution, “Bridgerton,” and the return of “The Crown.” Read original story Netflix Stock Soars to Record High After Topping 200 Million Subscribers At TheWrap

Kamala Harris made history on Wednesday as the first female vice president of the United States and the first Black and South Asian person to hold the office. She was escorted at the inauguration by Eugene Goodman, the Capitol police officer who risked his life to draw insurrectionists away from the Senate chamber on January 6. Goodman has been named the Acting Deputy House Sergeant at Arms. Harris will be sworn in by Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina Supreme Court justice. Many took to Twitter to mark the historic occasion. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tweeted, “It delights me to think that what feels historical and amazing to us today — a woman sworn in to the vice presidency — will seem normal, obvious, “of course” to Kamala’s grand-nieces as they grow up. And they will be right.” Also Read: What Kamala Harris Means for Diversity and Inclusion in Hollywood Added Senator Elizabeth Warren, “When @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris are sworn in today, decency and competence will be back in the White House. Millions of girls will be able to dream bigger. Millions of girls will be able to dream bigger.” Entrepreneur Shinjini Das wrote, “Kamala is going to put every white man in his place because other than Joe Biden, she is going to be every white man’s boss. I am overwhelmed by what this means for young brown rising women like me and my sisters. To feel this power is extraordinary. She makes me believe in me.” Emily Ramshaw, another CEO and the founder of 19th News, tweeted, “My daughter is young enough that she won’t remember a time when there had never been a woman Vice President. And I f—ing love that for her.” CNN anchor Abby Phillip called Harris’ swearing-in “a mark of progress for this country.” Harris herself posted a video thanking the women who came before her, and Black women in particular for being “the backbone of our democracy.” Watch Harris’ video below followed by more well-wishers. Alex Trebek went out on top, just like he deserved. Trebek’s final week of “Jeopardy!” episodes finished No. 1 in all of syndication, with TV ratings up 29% from the prior week. For the session ending Jan. 10, “Jeopardy’s” 6.6 rating bested second-place “Wheel of Fortune’s” 6.0. The “Wheel” number is up 18% from the prior week to its own season high. Primetime game show “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” premiered on ABC on Jan. 7, which surely helped. Trebek’s final “Jeopardy!” week actually declined from the comparable week in early 2020, when the show averaged a 7.1 rating. Back then, there was added interest in the format due to ABC airing primetime tournament “Jeopardy! The Greatest of All Time.” There also wasn’t the coronavirus — at least not here in the States — dampening seemingly everything. Also Read: The CW's 'All American' Scores Record Highs in Ratings and Viewers With Season 3 Premiere Trebek’s final “Jeopardy!” episode, which aired on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, drew 14 million viewers, according to Nielsen data. That makes it the show’s most-watched episode in 419 days — or since James Holzhauer’s incredible winning streak came to an end. Holzhauer won $2,462,216 over 32 “Jeopardy!” games. Ken Jennings, a current consulting producer and the first guest-host of the game show following Trebek’s passing, has topped Holzhauer in both cash and streak. Jennings scored $2,520,700 over 74 games back in 2004. Jennings also won that “Greatest of All Time” tournament, just in case there was any question about that. Also Read: 7 Memorable Moments From Alex Trebek's Final 'Jeopardy!' Episode In third place for the week ending Jan. 10, 2021 among all syndicated series was powerhouse “Judge Judy,” which rose 10% week to week to a 5.6 rating. In fourth — or in third among just the game shows — was regular game show leader “Family Feud,” which declined 4% to a 5.1. “Family Feud” has had a celebrity edition airing on (you guessed it) ABC for a while now. In terms of talk shows, “Live with Kelly and Ryan” (2.0) topped “Dr. Phil” (1.8) in their ongoing battle. “Kelly Clarkson” and “Maury” both drew a 1.0 rating. Also Read: Javicia Leslie's 'Batwoman' Debut Plummets 80% in Ratings From Ruby Rose's It’s worth noting here that Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2021 was riddled with preemptions due to news coverage of the siege on the Capitol Building. That impacted pretty much all of syndication. Jennings took over from behind the “Jeopardy!” podium on Jan. 11. We’ll get those ratings next week, and we’re getting a new batch of guest hosts soon. “The Flash” Season 7 premiere has been pushed from its originally scheduled date to make room for a huge “Superman & Lois” debut, The CW said Wednesday. The superhero show starring Grant Gustin, which was meant to return at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23 ahead of the series premiere of “Superman & Lois,” will now debut its seventh season a week later on March 2. Meanwhile, “Superman & Lois” is getting a supersized 90-minute series premiere Feb. 23, which will air from 8-9:30 p.m. ET/PT. The episode will be followed by a special, “Superman & Lois: Legacy of Hope,” at 9:30 p.m. That event will include “sneak peeks and interviews from the cast of the new series, plus special guests discussing the legacy of the Man of Steel.” Also Read: Here Are the Premiere Dates for Broadcast TV's New and Returning Winter Shows (Updating) When “The Flash” premieres the following Tuesday at 8, “Superman & Lois” will fly into its regularly scheduled time slot at 9. Per The CW, “In ‘Superman & Lois,’ after years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin, “Teen Wolf”) and comic books’ most famous journalist, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, “Grimm”), come face-to-face with one of their greatest challenges ever – dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass, “Little Fires Everywhere”) and Jordan (Alexander Garfin, “The Peanuts Movie”) could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older. Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui, “Entourage”), a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark’s first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez, “Graceland”). The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah (Inde Navarrette, “Wander Darkly”). Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh, “Nip/Tuck”) looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice. Meanwhile, Superman and Lois’ return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when a mysterious stranger (Wolé Parks, “All American”) enters their lives.” “Superman & Lois” is based on the characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The drama is written and executive produced by Todd Helbing (“The Flash”) and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns. “Superman & Lois” is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Read original story ‘Superman & Lois’ Gets Supersized Debut Episode, ‘The Flash’ Season 7 Premiere Pushed to March At TheWrap
