If, like us, you’re getting a bit bored of what’s on your telly, it may be time to bring out the trusty DVD player.

While it may be considered a past time, DVDs have seen a resurgence recently as families watch their collection of old favourites during lockdown.

Not to mention, buying a DVD can often turn out cheaper in the long run than continually having to rent your favourite film from a streaming service.

So, if like us, you’ve been having a look around for the best discs on sale this week, we’ve rounded-up everything from new 4K releases, to cheap and cheerful buys that can be a form a escapism for an hour of two.

The ramification of the lack of big cinema releases over the past few months means that the only two recent releases heading to disc at the moment have been Bill & Ted Face The Music and Saint Maud, both of which are now available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Still, catalogue titles are very much picking up the slack. On sale today, across numerous retailers, is a repackaging of an abundance of old Miramax titles, brought back on sale for around £7.99 apiece courtesy of a deal made with Paramount Pictures. Highlights? Starsky & Hutch was always underrated, From Dusk Til Dawn rewards a spin, and Cop Land remains is quite the drama.

Award-winners such as The Aviator, Cold Mountain and, er, Highlander IV (that one didn’t win awards tbh) are also included.

A fresh sale on Arrow Video titles has popped up over at Amazon, which is seeing a wealth of its terrific catalogue Blu-rays dropping for £7.99 for the time being – well over half price. Our top picks? The superb RoboCop package is a masterclass in revisiting an older film (although stock tends to fluctuate of this one), and the same can be said of its release of the original Japanese horror The Ring.

Order it now, and the promise is it’ll arrive in time for Valentine’s Day. And how’s that for a romantic pick?

Disney has announced a quartet of its animated favourites are getting a physical 4K disc release in March, and has pre-empted their arrival by, well, already chopping their prices. Beauty & The Beast, Mulan, Moana and The Little Mermaid are £15 apiece for the minute, each of them arriving on 15 March.

Finally this week, Zoom has kicked off a promotion on a cross-section of Sony titles, under the banner ‘re-discover great movies together’. The promo covers the DVD, Blu-ray and 4K disc formats, with some decent deals here. DVDs such as Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, the recent Charlie’s Angels and A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood are down to £3.99 each. On the Blu-ray front, Little Women (2019) is less than half-price at £8.99, as is Bloodshot.

The 4K prices aren’t as good – you’re generally better waiting for Zoom’s weekend deals – but still, Bad Boys For Life is sat there for a fiver off at £19.99 if you don’t want to wait.
