There aren’t many things we can play with our friends that are strictly no-contact, but lawn games such as tennis and golf are two of the few.

However, there is one lawn game that has eclipsed them both and seen sales go up by 600 per cent: croquet.

Yes, that’s right, the old-fashioned past-time is having a revival.

Once popular with English aristocrats and immortalised by Lewis Carroll in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the lawn game has become one of a handful of non-contact sports which are allowed during the lockdown - including golf and tennis.

This notable spike in sales comes from John Lewis, who say the purchases of garden croquet sets are up by 600 per cent compared to the same period last year.

This means that as well as joining five of your friends for a picnic, you can now diversify the meet-up with a dignified game of croquet - and a glass of bubbly, of course.

However, if the classic mallet and hoops game isn’t quite your bag, we’ve also found several other lawn games to indulge in.

From getting competitive with your family to keeping your distance with those outside of your household, here are six ways to make the most of your nearest green patch.
