Although Dubrovnik is considered an up-market destination, there are some comfortable budget choices. Generally these aren't hotels (with the exception of the excellent Hotel Berkeley in Gruž, which even has an outdoor pool), but rooms or apartments, some with kitchenettes. Delightful options among ther narrow, atmospheric streets of the Old Town come with cosy rooms and a sense of character and history. Outside the walls, our selection includes modern options and family-run guesthouses. Here's our pick of the best budget hotels in Dubrovnik for an affordable stay that doesn't compromise on charm.

Within Dubrovnik's medieval walls, the hotel stretches across the main building and two annexes. These old stone buildings date back to the 17th century and have been totally renovated to create functional interiors with exposed stonework, new pine-beamed ceilings and tiled floors. Décor is almost identical in both properties: Burgundy-red, gold and white predominate, with Baroque wooden furniture. The overall atmosphere is informal and peaceful. The Old Town can be noisy at night in summer, but these rooms are in peaceful side alleys, so you should sleep well. However, the streets are narrow, so don't expect spectacular views.
