Benjy passed away in Medan, Indonesia
11 Jul - Former actor Benjy, real name Khaeryll Benjamin Ibrahim, has recently passed away.
The news was confirmed by father Khairil "Karl" Anwar Zainal Mukhtar Rashidi, who revealed that the actor passed away in a hospital in Medan, Indonesia due to asthma.
Karl stated that he was told by a friend of Benjy that the actor died at 11am this morning.
On the other hand, Malaysian Artistes Association (SENIMAN) stated that they are currently seeking help from the Consulate General of Malaysia to take care of his body.
It is noted that Benjy had been incarcerated in Medan, Indonesia since 2017, after being found guilty of smuggling crystal methamphetamine into the country.
In late last year, SENIMAN revealed that they have been assisting Benjy in providing him with asthmatic medications among others, but found it challenging to continue due to the pandemic.
The son of thespian Azean Irdawaty, Benjy started his career as a child actor in the 1988 film, "Perempuan". Among his most known film and TV roles include, "Baginda" (1997), "Astana Idaman" (2001), and "Kerana Cintaku Saerah" (2007).
He was 42.
