Bekah Martinez Slams Troll Who Said Her Daughter Is “Too Old” to Breastfeed

From Cosmopolitan

  • Bekah Martinez clapped back at a troll who criticized her for breastfeeding her daughter, Ruth.

  • Bekah posted a response to Instagram, defending her parenting decision.

I thought we left mom-shaming back in 2019...guess not. Bachelor alum (and fan-favorite) Bekah Martinez recently defended herself against a social media troll who criticized her for breastfeeding her daughter. My eyes are rolling after reading the commenter’s remarks, but I love Bekah even more for shutting it down.

Bekah posted a cute pic of her breastfeeding her daughter, Ruth, and son, Franklin, at the same time. “Just doin’ my mom thing,” she captioned the sweet shot. But one person didn’t think it was sweet because they wrote, “She’s too old and is going to have psychological issues when she’s older.”

Bekah wasn’t having it and posted an Instagram Story explaining why that person’s thinking is messed up. “My daughter is NOT EVEN 18 MONTHS and I’m already getting comments like this,” she wrote. “It’s REALLY hard to get a child to involuntarily breastfeed so it’s ridiculous when people claim someone’s forcing their older child to feed.”

She continued, “If a child is voluntarily nursing...there is NOTHING psychologically damaging about nursing through and even past the toddler years. We’ve got it soooo backwards now as a society. Children don’t have any concept of breastfeeding being sexual.”

Ever since appearing on Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s season of The Bachelor, Bekah has developed a reputation for speaking her mind. She’s open about why she stopped shaving her body hair and frequently explains her parenting choices. It’s a parent’s job to decide what»s best for their child—not some rando on the internet.

When commenters accused her of sharing too much of her kids on Instagram, she explained why their thinking is warped. “First, I don’t know how long it’s been since you’ve been a teen but I’ve never heard anyone make fun of someone for having photos breastfeeding with their mom,” she wrote. “Second, my daughter’s going to be a confident badass bitch who won’t be fazed if someone was to say some dumb sh*t about it.”

Like mother, like daughter.
