Bebe Rexha has issued a caustic response to a follower who branded her “tubby” on Instagram.

Yesterday the 29-year-old ‘Say My Name’ singer shared a photo of herself performing in Cannes, France. It has since received hundreds of thousands of Instagram likes.

Yet many of the comments centred around Rexha’s weight, with one writing, “don’t be sad u can lose weight slowly without being sad,” and another saying, “It's okay to gain weight...there is no shame”.

One particular comment read: “you’re gaining a lot of weight tubby”.

But Rexha soon showed she had no time for the unprompted comments about her body.

She hit back in a Twitter thread shared late last night, telling people they had “no right” to make such comments.

Rexha’s followers and fellow celebrities have rushed in to support her on the back of these comments.

“You are GORGEOUS, strong, authentic and an inspiration to me and so many,” wrote Demi Lovato on Rexha’s original Instagram post.

Other comments read, “Bebe you are amazing” and “You’re gorgeous just the way you are”.

This isn’t the first time Rexha has publicly addressed her weight. Earlier this year, she revealed high-end fashion designers refused to dress her for the Grammys because she is “too big”.

Bebe, who is a US clothing size 8 (UK size 12), admitted her team had approached a number of designers to dress her for the prestigious music awards, but many had refused because of her size.

Body positivity is a growing movement among celebrities on social media.

Last month, ‘Girls’ creator Lena Dunham encouraged fans to “love themselves” with a nude photograph on Instagram.

Alongside the image, she wrote: “Any negativity that comes your way is just an excuse to love yourself even more, right? Comment below with a reason you love yourself.”
