Barack Obama Joined Onstage By Hillary Clinton At DNC, Blasts Donald Trump As “Self-Declared Savior”
“America is already great, America is already strong, and I promise you, our strength, our greatness, does not depend on Donald Trump,” a fired-up President Barack Obama told the Democratic National Convention tonight in Philadelphia. “He’s just offering slogans, and he’s offering fear,” Of “self-declared savior” Trump, who earlier Wednesday called the man he aims to replace “one of the worst Presidents in the history of our country,” Obama said: “He’s betting that if he scares enough people, he might score just enough votes to win this election. That is another bet that Donald Trump will lose.”
After blasting the GOP nominee with phrases like “homegrown demagogues,” hearing chants of “four more years” and praising Hillary Clinton in his 44-minute speech, the 44th POTUS was joined onstage in an true Hollywood ending and orchestrated family portrait by the former First Lady who wants to be the 45th President and America’s first female commander-in-chief. “I’m ready to pass the baton,” Obama said at the end of his speech.
“There has never been a man or a woman — not me, not Bill, nobody — more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as President of the United States of America,” Obama said earlier to a standing ovation that saw the POTUS 42 on his feet too. “Hope you don’t mind, Bill. I’m just telling the truth, man.”
In his fourth DNC appearance and coming two days after the widely praised speech by First Lady Michelle Obama, the incumbent opened with”Hello, America! Hello, Democrats!” as he listed his achievements and rallied the delegates behind his 2008 rival and first term Secretary of State as Bill Clinton did for him in 2012. The former Illinois senator was the headliner on Day 3 of the Democrats’ hootenanny, after VP nominee and Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine addressed the crowd in the Wells Fargo Center.

After being hailed earlier in the night by VP Joe Biden as “one of the finest Presidents we’ve ever had,” Obama was directly preceded by a 10-minute legacy themed film directed by multiple Emmy winner Peter Kunhardt and An Inconvenient Truth helmer Davis Guggenheim. For trivia fans, the latter made the film that introduced Obama in 2008.
Obama’s highly anticipated speech in the City of Brotherly Love comes on a day that saw Trump lash out at him as “the most ignorant President in our history” in a press conference in Florida in which he seemingly also advocated that the Russian government cyberattack the U.S.and then release the 30,000-plus deleted emails from Clinton’s personal server to further embarrass the candidate.

Thursday will see Hillary Clinton take to the podium to deliver her acceptance speech to what could be a primetime audience of over 30 million. Even with this year’s DNC running over four nights as opposed to three in 2012 and 2008, comparisons to Obama’s acceptance speeches will come in overall audience. His remarks on August 28, 2008, in Denver pulled in 38.4 million viewersm while his September 6, 2012, speech saw 37.71 million tuning in on broadcast and cable news networks.
