Balenciaga launched the 6XL sneaker on Nov. 4, a “sculptural” shoe hitting the market in men’s and women’s sizes.
The brand describes the new shoe in an official release: “The 6XL builds on Balenciaga’s signature approach to hybridity and distortion, reimagining the iconography and textures of classic sports sneakers. Its volume is designed for versatility, pairing effortlessly with the House’s entire range of signature silhouettes.”
The campaign was photographed by Chris Lensz, who captured models Khadim and Lise wearing the 6XL style while seated in a wooden chair against a wall; Khadim modeled the shoes with track pants and a long coat while Lise wore a fitted black button-down down dress, showcasing the shoe’s versatility.
The shoe’s strongly defined curves make for a noticeable silhouette; Balenciaga describes the shoe as having “a distinctive hourglass shape.” In the campaign imagery, both models wore a white version of the shoe, though online a black and gray option can be found in addition to a taupe iteration which blends in gray and black as well. Made without leather, the sneakers are crafted with mesh, polyurethane and polyester. The Balenciaga name is debossed on the tongue of the sneaker while the brand’s 3B sports icon artwork is featured in rubber on the side of the shoe, in addition to other details. Described on the company’s website as having a “worn-out effect,” the 6XL retails for $1,200 from the luxury brand.
Balenciaga is well known for its bold and unusual silhouettes. Originally founded in Spain in 1917, the label maintains a high level of celebrity support. Romeo Beckham, son of David Beckham and Victoria Beckham, recently walked in Balenciaga’s spring 2025 presentation wearing the brand’s first basketball sneaker on the runway. Kim Kardashian is another well known name to have donned Balenciaga’s designs; earlier this year she wore the Draped Pantabodysuit to attend Homeboy Industries’ 2024 Lo Maximo Awards And Fundraising Gala, held in Los Angeles in April. Among many noteworthy shoes, Balenciaga creates the Knife pump, a high heel with a super sharp toe worn by the likes of Nicole Kidman and more stars.
