"Bakara" production delayed to next year
24 Sep – When director and producer Adrian Teh announced last year that he was working on the military action film "Bakara", fans were excited and highly anticipating it following his previous successes with "Paskal The Movie" and "Wira".
However, the filming for the movie that was set to begin in Turkey and Malaysia in June 2020 has now been postponed to June next year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has led to international travel bans to be imposed in Malaysia for the time being.
Adrian, also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ACT 2 Pictures, stated, "The pandemic has caused huge impacts to the film industry. I am so grateful to the Malaysian Army and Longhouse Films for their unwavering support during this hard times. I will do my very best to crack this mission impossible!"
He added that they will resume the prep works and adapt their work ethics to the new normal post-MCO (Movement Control Order).
"Bakara" is based on a true incident that took place in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1993. It tells the untold story of Malaysian soldiers rescuing the elite US team that was surrounded by Somalian militants at the Bakara Market.
It is set to star some of Malaysia's best actors such as Bront Palarae, Hairul Azreen, Remy Ishak, Shaheizy Sam, Fauzi Nawawi and many more.
The movie, originally scheduled for release in cinemas on 31 August 2021, will highly likely be postponed to 31 August 2022.
