Baby Sussex Is Reportedly Overdue, But Prince Harry & Meghan Markle in ‘Good Spirits’

Given the fact that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are poised to become first-time parents any minute now, it would be understandable if the royal couple was dealing with a bit of pre-baby anxiety. Then again, Harry and Meghan have always seemed like a pretty unflappable pair — and that calm and collected demeanor is reportedly serving them well. Rebecca English, a respected royal correspondent for the U.K.’s Daily Mail, says that Harry and Meghan are “happy” and “relaxed” ahead of the birth of baby Sussex. In other words, they’re keeping things stress-free as their last days as a family of two dwindle.

English took to Twitter on Saturday to give an update on the growing family, noting, “One source has told me that #HarryandMeghan are happy, relaxed and in good spirits. The baby is overdue, as first babies often are, but all is good at Frogmore Cottage.” This news comes just days after Harry cut a scheduled trip to the Netherlands short — slicing what was supposed to be a two-day visit into a one-and-done deal, per the Daily Mail. Naturally, this only further piqued curiosity about Meghan’s due date, with Harry citing “logistical planning” reasons for canceling the first day of the trip.

Every Single Clue That Meghan & Harry Have Already Welcomed Baby Sussex

A friend of Meghan’s essentially corroborated English’s status update about the couple, reportedly telling ET that the soon-to-be parents have been enjoying a “love-filled time” awaiting the arrival of their firstborn. The friend added that Meghan has felt “so much compassion from her new family” and that she is “looking forward to the birth.” The outlet also allegedly learned that Meghan and Harry have experienced a steady stream of friends, family and loved ones dropping by with well-wishes as baby Sussex’s debut approaches. This includes Meghan’s mom Doria Ragland, who flew out last month from L.A. to be with her daughter.

The baby — who will be seventh in line to the throne — will not be born in the Lindo private maternity unit at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, like all three of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children. At this point, it’s unclear whether Meghan plans to have a home birth (like the Queen!) or, as some reports suggest, opt for delivery at an NHS hospital in Surrey.

What we do know is that the public won’t immediately “meet” baby Sussex. The Duke and Duchess have already expressed that they will be “celebrating privately as a new family” following the birth, meaning photographs of the newborn likely won’t be taken or made public for several days.

For now, though, #SussexStandby continues.
