A baby was born during a GrabCar ride to Gleneagles Hospital on 7 July this year, in what was Grab’s third such case in the past year.

The baby, Isaiah Yeo, follows two others born during GrabCar rides on 12 August and 21 November last year, said Grab in a press release on Tuesday (7 August).

Isaiah’s father, Shawn, shared that he and his wife, Ida Nee, initially thought that they had time to make their journey to the hospital when Ida experienced contractions in the morning, as their first child’s labour process took nearly four hours.

However, Ida’s contractions “intensified” and they had to rush to the hospital. Yeo then made a JustGrab booking for them to head to the hospital.

“Barely a few minutes within the car ride, her water bag broke. Armed with just a towel, we had to make do with whatever we had but, thankfully, we were able to deliver the baby within the 20-minute journey,” Yeo said.

Nee delivered her baby in the GrabCar with the help and advice of Grab driver Yeong.

“We are very grateful for Mr Yeong’s support during the tricky situation and for being so understanding even though we made a mess in his car.

“We compensated him for the cleaning fees incurred and of course, gave him a 5-star rating as well,” Yeo added.

Yeong shared that he was “nervous” when he noticed Nee in labour, but did not turn them down as he knew that they had get to the hospital as soon as possible.

“Nee was screaming throughout the entire journey but I did my best to stay calm. Thankfully, both the mother and baby are safe. It’s not every day that you can say you helped deliver a baby – this is a ride that I will never forget,” Yeong said.

Yeo and Nee were awarded with a Grab voucher worth $8,000, as well as a special Grab onesie for baby Isaiah, while Yeong was awarded with fuel vouchers worth $800.
