18 Aug – Janine Gutierrez is excited to reveal that her movie, "Babae at Baril" has been selected as the opening film at this year's New York Asian Film Festival.
The actress shared the good news, writing, "So proud that this female team (female directed & written, female produced, female edited, female shot!!) has made it to the [NYAFF] and is the opening film!"
"So excited that "Babae at Baril" written and directed by [Rae Red] is representing the Philippines in a festival that has, in the past, featured some of the most amazing Filipino films (that I love!)" she added, referring to Erik Matti's "Buy Bust", "Mikhail Red's "Birdshot", and Mario Cornejo's "Apocalypse Child".
Gutierrez also revealed that the movie will be available everywhere in the US through streaming from 28 August to 12 September.
"I'm counting the pros because it has always been my [dream] to attend international festivals and it's so bittersweet that the #NYAFF is only online for now, but that just means we'll have to make our own little red carpet / theatre / forum here. Join me?" she enthused.
It is noted that Gutierrez previously won Best Actress at the Asian Next Wave Competition for the said film.
"Babae at Baril" ("The Girl and the Gun") tells the story of a department store saleslady whose life drastically changes when she discovers a gun and the power it can give her.
