27 Dec – Famed composer Azmeer is expressing hope that people would not question the decision made by the Communications and Multimedia Ministry as to the recipients of its Music Digital Content Fund (DKD).

The composer, who was among those who received the fund, stated that the ministry has its own standard operating procedure and panel of decision-makers in determining the recipients.

"I believe that they've made a thorough assessment, including the gains that the recipients will bring to the music industry through the fund. I believe that they didn't just call anybody to be the panelists. These people must have assessed everything from various aspects, from the economy to the art itself," he said.

Azmeer also believes that not every recipient received all that they wanted. "I think maybe 30 percent [from what we asked]," he added.

The composer stated that the recipients now have a great responsibility to produce the projects that they have proposed to the ministry, and that the latter will also be overseeing the development.

As for his own proposal to the ministry, Azmeer said that he is collaborating with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) to produce 100 Best Malay Songs in 100 Years, which will be chosen from millions of songs starting from the 1900s to the year 2000.

"We will be compiling evergreen songs throughout the era, as well as chronicling the history behind the making of these songs. We will then re-record these songs without compromising the aesthetics of the originals," he said, adding that it will be published in dual languages of Bahasa Melayu and English.
