Avengers: Infinity War No Longer Two Movies?
It would appear there’s been a bit of a rethink at Marvel headquarters.
It has come to light that the scheduled fourth ‘Avengers’ – known until now as ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part II’ – will not be released under this title.
Whilst the third ‘Avengers’ movie, scheduled for release May 2018, will still be entitled ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ its follow-up (due exactly 12 months later) is now listed simply as an ‘Untitled Avengers’ movie on the official release schedule of Marvel’s parent company Disney.
This news seems to have caused alarm in some quarters, suggesting a major rethink to how the epic ‘Infinity War’ saga will be brought to the screen – but in truth this isn’t a huge revelation.
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who will pick up the ‘Avengers’ reins from Joss Whedon after cutting their teeth on the last two ‘Captain America’ movies, had already made it clear that ‘Infinity War Part 1 & 2’ were only working titles for the two films.
Back in May, Anthony described the two-volume moniker as “misleading,” whilst Joe explained, “The movies are two very different movies… The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it.”
‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is expected to be based primarily on the ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ comic book saga, which saw the heroes of the Marvel universe team up to battle super-villain Thanos when the intergalactic titan takes control of the dreaded Infinity Gauntlet to manipulate reality to his will.
As such, it is widely anticipated that the ‘Infinity War’ movie (and/or its untitled sequel) will bring most if not all of the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe characters together – potentially including the Guardians of the Galaxy, and as-yet unseen characters like Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel - in the most epic superhero movie/s yet.
Thanos actor Josh Brolin has spoken highly of his future directors, telling us recently, “these guys are just masterful at telling stories.”
