It seems like Singaporeans just can’t get enough of the Avengers.

“Avengers: Infinity War” (AIW) has set yet another record for Marvel Studios by becoming the highest-grossing film ever in Singapore, with box office sales hitting $14.3 million by its third weekend.

The film, in which the eponymous band of superheroes finally square off against arch-villain Thanos, is also the first in Singapore to hit $14 million in sales, according to figures from the Walt Disney Company released on Tuesday (15 May).

In fact, the top three highest-grossing films in Singapore have all been Marvel Studios films, with 2012’s “The Avengers” taking the No. 2 spot with $13.7 million, and 2015’s “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” in third place with $13.1 million.

The No. 2 film for 2018 in terms of box office sales is – surprise, surprise – yet another Marvel production: “Black Panther”, which has racked up $9.7 million in box office receipts.

AIW , the culmination of 10 years of Marvel superhero movies that began with 2008’s “Iron Man”, previously also set records in Singapore for the biggest industry opening weekend and the biggest five-day opening weekend.

Variety reported that AIW earned US$61.8 million (S$82.7 million) at the U.S. box office in its third weekend. It also made US$281.3 million over the recent weekend from 55 international markets, including a massive US$200 million launch in China – making it the biggest film worldwide with total earnings so far of US$1.6 billion.
