'Avengers: Endgame' crosses $2 billion and is closing on 'Avatar'
Avengers: Endgame has topped $2 billion at the global box office in only 12 days on release.
It’s made a total of $2.19 billion (£1.87 billion) in all, meaning that it has Avatar, the current largest global release of all time, well in its sights.
It took Avatar, James Cameron’s sci-fi blockbuster from 2009, the sequel to which is set to arrive at Christmas 2020, 47 days on release to pass the $2 billion mark, ending up making a total of $2.7 million in all.

That said, there’s still some way to go before Endgame starts entering the all-time chart when adjusted for inflation.
Gone With The Wind sits at the top, with the equivalent of $3.7 billion, and even Avatar would have made $3.2 billion once adjusted, still the second highest-grossing movie ever made.
To enter the all-time adjusted chart, Endgame would also have to beat Titanic ($3.07 billion), Star Wars ($3.04 billion), and The Sound of Music ($2.54 billion).
But either way, the Marvel movie has achieved staggering results in record time, and it’s highly likely that it will end up crossing $900 million in the US alone.

The final movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ‘phase 3’, it’s the culmination of 21 previous movies in producer Kevin Fiege’s grand comic book opus.
It will continue of with Spider-Man: Far From Home, the first movie in the post-Endgame world, helmed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, reprising his role as Peter Parker.
What’s not yet known is where the MCU will go from here, but with a box office haul of over $20 billion in just over a decade, this juggernaut will not be stopping any time soon.
