It has begun. And with a rather ominous message too from the Russo brothers: “Beginning the end”.
We don’t yet know the title for Avengers 4 because the title itself is a spoiler, according to Marvel. But in all likelihood, those three words are a reference to Marvel Studios’ president Kevin Feige’s previous comments that Infinity War is the culmination of 10 years of storytelling. As he told Collider back in April:
“Certainly as we get to Infinity War, there is a sense of a climax, if not a conclusion to, by the time we’re at untitled Avengers 4, the 22 movies that will have encompassed the first three phases of the MCU [Marvel Cinematic Universe]. And what happens after that will be very different. I don’t know if it’s Phase 4, it might be a new thing.”
Hmmm could those four digits of that purple glove be a simple reference to Phase 4 then? Some of the more colourful theories on the Russos’ Facebook are saying that it belongs to time-traveling villain Kang the Conqueror.
As far as the Marvel slate for 2017 goes, we’ve already seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 (see our review) while Thor: Ragnarok opens in Singapore on November 2. In 2018, we can expect Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther and Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Meanwhile, Avengers 4 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2019.
