Avatar 2 has unveiled a new look at filming, as its huge production budget has been revealed.

The long, long-awaited sequel to James Cameron's 2009 fantasy is set to resume production in New Zealand, after the coronavirus pandemic closed down production back in March.

With four more Avatar sequels officially in development, Deadline reports that the franchise has a combined budget of over $1 billion.

Phew, that's a lot of unobtanium!

The first Avatar sequel will bring back Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and, surprisingly, Sigourney Weaver to the franchise.

This time, our heroes will be exploring a whole new terrain underwater, as two behind-the-scenes pictures reveal.

Posted on the official Avatar Twitter page, the pictures see the actors filming underwater as director James Cameron gives them guidance from above.

"From the set of the sequels: @JimCameron directing the actors before they dive underwater for performance capture," the tweet reads.

"Fun fact: That layer of white on the water's surface is comprised of floating balls that prevent lights from interfering with filming underwater."

A first look at Sigourney Weaver's return as Dr Grace Augustine has also already been unveiled.

Back to the blue we go!
