5 Jan – Singer-actress Avaa Vanja was revealed to have successfully prevented her ten-year-old daughter from being taken abroad through an interim custody after filing for divorce against her husband, Aamil Sulaiman in December last year.

According to Avaa's legal representative, the "Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang" star and her husband had undergone the sulh hadhanah process and the first mention of their divorce case at the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court on 28 December.

On 3 January, the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court allowed Avaa's injunction application to prevent Aamil from taking their daughter abroad.

"The client applied to be given custody, while waiting for the full hadhanah application to be decided because she was worried that the child's welfare and faith would be neglected if she wasn't there to take care of her," said the lawyer. "Avaa also filed an injunction to prevent her daughter from being taken out of the country by her husband who also has US citizenship."

It is noted that her daughter also has US citizenship.

Back in October, Avaa, who tied the knot with Aamil Sulaiman in 2011, lodged a police report saying that she and her daughter were abused by her husband.
