The highly-anticipated annual ranking in the world of bars has chosen Singapore to host its next award ceremony, where it will unveil the year’s best watering holes across Asia.

According to a media release on Wednesday (21 February), the event is set to take place on 3 May at the swanky Capitol Theatre. The third annual list will reveal Asia’s top 50 bars in front of attendees consisting of some of the best bartenders, influential bar owners and industry figures, among others.

The list is created based on a voting system where experts such as drinks journalists, bartenders and bar owners will place their votes for the top seven bar experiences from the last 18 months.

Last year saw three Singapore bars making it to the top 10 in Asia. The Manhattan, located at Regent Hotel, was ranked number 1, while 28 HongKong Street and Operation Dagger took up the number 4 and 6 spots respectively.

The award, which began in 2016, will also usher in the Singapore Cocktail Festival, which will take place from 4 to 13 May.

It is an extension of popular culinary ranking “World’s 50 Best Bars”, which began in 2009.

“The city was a fabulous host for Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants from 2013 to 2015 and we are really looking forward to enjoying the warm hospitality of the Lion City once again,” said William Drew, the group editor of The World’s 50 Best Bars and Asia’s 50 Best Bars.
