Arsenal told Arteta will not win the Premier League after they ‘snatched defeat from jaws of victory’
Arsenal have been warned that Mikel Arteta may not be capable of being a Premier League winner as a manager as he cannot take them to the “next level”.
Arteta has done a superb job at Arsenal over the past couple of seasons. He helped them battle for the top four last term and this campaign he has masterminded their sustained challenge for the Premier League title.
The Gunners have been at the top of the table for much of this season but they now look set to fall short to Man City, who are one win away from sealing the title.
Arsenal went on a four-game winless run in April as they dropped points against Liverpool, West Ham, Southampton and Man City.
The Londoners recovered from these setbacks to beat Chelsea and Newcastle United, but they slipped to a convincing 3-0 loss to Brighton over the weekend.
Arsenal’s focus will now switch to the summer and they are expected to be busy in the transfer market. Granit Xhaka is likely to join Bayer Leverkusen and they are hoping to replace him with West Ham’s Declan Rice.
They are also looking to sign a new defender as William Saliba’s injury has left them short of high-quality options in that area of the pitch.
Arteta’s aim will be to establish Arsenal as a regular contender for the title, but Simon Jordan does not feel they will win the league with him as manager.
“I worry – to use a Souness-ism – that Arteta is a son-in-law,” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“I am not sure he has this particular gear in those narrowing of the eyes that concentrates players’ minds to get them to the next level. Something was lost and it wasn’t just [William] Saliba that didn’t get you past those games.”
TalkSPORT presenter Jim White leapt to the defence of Arteta by pointing to his bullish treatment of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. But Jordan reiterated his stance that Arsenal will not win the league with the Spaniard at the helm.
“‘That was a courage of conviction moment but then you have that moment when your team needs to do something different to overcome the business end of the season,” Jordan added.
“Arsenal’s business end of the season was similar to the business end of the season last year for different reasons.
“Well done for finishing second in the league. Not so well done for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Are they going to build on it? Is the next step to win the league? I don’t think it is.”
