Arsenal talent tipped to reject ‘improved’ contract offer and move elsewhere; Arteta won’t be happy
Reiss Nelson is eyeing a move away from Arsenal this summer despite the club’s attempts to tie him down to a new contract, according to reports.
The 23-year-old has struggled for consistent playing time with the Gunners this term, but Mikel Arteta still rates him highly.
Nevertheless, if Arsenal fail to agree on fresh terms with Nelson, they will be powerless to stop him from leaving.
Indeed, the attacker’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season. This means, if nothing changes, he will be available on a free transfer this summer.
Nelson has made just nine Premier League appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring three goals and making two assists in the process.
The Englishman has found himself behind the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard in the pecking order.
Despite this, the Gunners have been trying for some time to convince Nelson to sign a contract extension.
In fact, according to Football Insider, Arsenal are now preparing to make an ‘improved offer’ to convince the attacker to stay. But, the player is reportedly reluctant to pen an extension.
Reiss Nelson eyeing Arsenal departure
Indeed, Football Insider add that Nelson is ‘keen to kickstart his career away from Arsenal’ despite the club’s attempts to persuade him to stay.
They note he is ‘aware’ that it will be tough to break into Arteta’s starting XI ahead of the likes of Saka and Martinelli.
Also, signing wingers is believed to be one of Arsenal’s transfer priorities this summer. For instance, Barcelona star Raphinha has been linked with a switch to the Emirates.
With that in mind, a move away from Arsenal could be the best thing for Nelson’s development.
Interestingly, his entourage recently ‘offered’ his services to AC Milan. This shows Nelson is actively looking for his next club, despite his contract negotiations with Arsenal still being in progress.
Aston Villa, West Ham and Everton have all registered an interest in the winger, too, so there is no shortage of interest in his signature.
Arsenal still have time to tie Nelson down to fresh terms. But, as it stands, everything is pointing towards Nelson leaving the Emirates.
