Arsenal stun Man City as Fabrizio Romano confirms £300,000-a-week winger has signed
Man City have been cast aside by Arsenal who Fabrizio Romano has confirmed will soon have a new top earner.
City and Arsenal have gone toe-to-toe in the Premier League this season and have also begun to converge in the transfer market too.
Indeed, both Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus swapped the Etihad for Emirates last summer. Both the Athletic and Guardian report Mikel Arteta hopes to make it a hattrick by landing soon-to-be free agent, Ilkay Gundogan,
However, trusted reporter Ben Jacobs previously told TEAMtalk Man City were eyeing a raid of their own.
Indeed, Jacobs explained Arsenal talisman, Bukayo Saka, is a concrete target for Man City.
Jacobs explained City are “playing the long game” for Saka who could be viewed as the successor to Riyad Mahrez who’s now 32.
However, it now appears City will be unable to pluck Saka from north London, irrespective of how much patience they show.
Indeed, both talkSPORT and the PA recently reported Saka was set to sign a new, long-term contract with the Gunners. His current deal expires at the end of next season.
The PA claimed an agreement was ‘all-but reached’ and promotional footage for the social media channels and club website had already been filmed.
talkSPORT piggybacked on the PA’s information, adding Saka would become Arsenal’s new top earner on an eye-watering salary of £300,000-a-week.
Now, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has weighed in on the situation, claiming the contract has now been signed.
New Saka contract gets “here we go” confirmation
Romano tweeted he understands Bukayo Saka has “signed the new long term contract with Arsenal”, adding it’s “done and sealed”.
An official announcement is expected in due course and Romano gave the new deal his signature “here we go” confirmation.
The news will come as a huge sigh of relief to Arsenal who simply cannot afford to lose a player of Saka’s calibre to a direct title rival.
Saka is a two-time and reigning Arsenal Player of the Year. But for the brilliance of Martin Odegaard, he may well make it three in a row.
Nonetheless, he’ll now get the opportunity to add to that tally in subsequent years and will be handsomely rewarded from a financial perspective while doing so.
