Ariel Winter had the perfect response to people calling her a role model
Being a teenager is a feat in itself. Never mind if you’re in the public eye or not. Growing up and navigating the choppy waters carrying you to adulthood is different and difficult for everyone. For those who are in the public eye, the title of “role model” is very often thrown around. And while this can be empowering for some, it can also be hard to live up to for others. Thankfully Ariel Winter is glad to be a role model, although she thinks it’s important to remember that celebrities are real people who make mistakes just like us.
Ariel was at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Saturday for the premiere of her film Dog Years, and in an interview with People, Ariel told the reporter, ““I love the term [role model], it’s great. But I think people put too much pressure on people to be perfect and to portray that image, when really what we should be aspiring to is having role models that should be themselves because people make mistakes. They are human, and I think that’s really important. That’s what I aim to be is just me.”
We love this message not only because Ariel answered it perfectly but because the whole point of the human experience is to make mistakes, and to learn! We’re all learning how to navigate life, and although it may seem that celebrities have it easier, they’re also people too. So while we should find inspiration in Ariel and women like her, it’s important to remember that we’re all human, and that means we all mess up.
At least we’ll be messing up together.
