Apple is back with a brand-new iPhone, and it’s one every traveler will adore for a few key features.

On Tuesday, Apple revealed the latest iteration of its famed phone, the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which come with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from the company. But this time, it’s also coming with its most advanced camera yet.

“This is the most pro lineup we have ever created, with a state-of-the-art titanium design, the best iPhone camera system yet that enables game-changing new workflows, and the A17 Pro chip, which ushers in a new chapter of performance and games never before seen on iPhone,” Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, shared in the announcement. “iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max represent the best of Apple design and industry-first innovations to help enrich the everyday experiences of our users while enabling them to unleash their creativity.”

Here are a few of the important features for travelers to know about when deciding if it’s time to upgrade their device.

Apple Has Seriously Upgraded the iPhone Camera

The iPhone 15 comes with three “optical-quality zoom levels,” which iPhone users already know and love — the .5x ultra-wide, 1x for middle distance, and 2x for telephoto. However, what’s improved is the quality. The main camera is moving up from 12-megapixels found in the iPhone 14 to 48-megapixels. The front camera also now comes with autofocus and portrait lighting for far better selfies than ever before.

The iPhone’s upgraded cameras will also improve your videos, thanks to 4K HDR resolution, as well as new upgrades to Action mode to “steady a really shaky handheld shot,” Apple explained.

Apple also had one more camera trick up its sleeve this time — shifting focus. The phone now allows users to take an image and shift the focus from one subject to another, even after they’ve taken the photo.

Apple Promises 'All-day' Battery With the iPhone 15

Apple boldly claimed that the new iPhone 15 will come with “all-day” battery life, adding up to three hours of video playback time compared to the iPhone 12. According to Apple, users can get Up to 26 hours of video playback time on the iPhone 15 Plus and up to 20 hours on the iPhone 15, an excellent upgrade for long-haul flights and all-day adventures without a charger available.

We Finally Have the Universal Charger of Our Dreams!

Finally, the time has come for Apple to create a universal charger. The new iPhone 15 comes with a USB-C connector, so you can charge your iPhone, laptop, and iPad with the same charger. This means when you travel, you only have to worry about bringing one charger along for all your devices.

Apple Made Additions to Its Emergency Service

Apple introduced its SOS service with the last iPhone, allowing users to contact emergency services anywhere in the world via satellite connectivity. And now, it’s further improving the product with roadside assistance. According to Apple, if you break down somewhere without cell service, you can use the satellite system by texting “Roadside Assistance” and following the on-screen steps to connect to a satellite. This will connect you to AAA roadside assistance provider who can send help. Importantly, Apple noted, “It all works, even if you’re not a member” of AAA.

The iPhone 15 starts at $799 for a 128GB model, while the iPhone 15 Plus starts at $899 for the 128GB version. Preorders open this Friday.
