Nicole Kidman won a SAG Award on Sunday night, but she was eager to talk about other actresses whose work she admired.

“You look at Frances McDormand, you look at Saoirse Ronan, you look at Margot Robbie right now - amazing performances,” Kidman told ELLE.com backstage at the Shrine Auditorium. “There’s not [just] one singular performance. I’ve watched actors and actresses and I learn so much still...and they could be performances I’ve seen three or four times.”

During her acceptance speech for the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series award, in which she heaped praise on her Big Little Lies co-stars Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern, Kidman also turned the spotlight on several other actresses - including Susan Sarandon, Jessica Lange, and Meryl Streep - who have proven there’s artistic life in Hollywood after age 40.

“I wanted to acknowledge also the women that have come before me who are still vibrant and working, that was important to me,” said Kidman. “There’s so many of them - there’s Helen Mirren, there’s so many! I just love that we’re employed, that we’re working, and that is happening right now.”

The Oscar-winning actress also noted that she constantly found inspiration in the performances of an earlier era of filmmaking as well. “I look back at the greats: Ingrid Bergman and Vivien Leigh and Jeanne Moreau and Anna Magnani. I’m a fan as well, and this is what I do.”

And she had some words of encouragement for other actors. “I just love seeing other people having the opportunity,” Kidman explained. “The thing I love to tell actors is: You are one role away from this. That’s the great thing about this journey and this life as an actor - you are actually just one role away from it. That gives people hope.”
