If you're someone who is left scrambling at the last minute every December to find presents for your loved ones, then you might want to steal a tip or two from Aoife Morrison.

Aoife, a mom from Australia, was sick and tired of waiting until the very last minute every year to purchase Christmas decorations and presents for her family, according to the Daily Mirror. In an effort to avoid all that holiday stress this year, the 33-year-old decided to start her holiday preparations in April (!!) with an organized list and a smart budget in mind.

"There's only 22 weeks until Christmas and I've tried telling my friends and family that forward planning is the best thing to do," Aoife told the Daily Mirror. "I wrote a list with every gift I intended to buy and have since ticked every item off my list, I'm officially ready for Christmas."

Because Aoife, her husband Jason, and their two-year-old daughter Willow are living on a single income, budget planning was key. By writing down every gift needed for her friends and family members, she discovered that the total would cost around $550 in U.S. dollars. This meant that the Morrisons would only have to save about $20 per month to pay everything off by December.

"I have paid for all my gifts by putting aside money each month," Aoife said. "Now I've started sorting Christmas early, there's no way I'd go back to rushing around in the last few weeks of the festive period. If people pre plan, they can save money and buy gifts that your loved ones actually want or need."

With Christmas shopping out the way, the Morrison family can now spend more time enjoying fun holiday activities like decorating the Christmas tree, and baking festive cookies.
