With the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s timeline being of pretty vital importance to how its stories play out, Peyton Reed has explained how Ant-Man and the Wasp fits in, given the climactic events of Avengers: Infinity War.

Taking place before the events of Infinity War, Reed explained that it’s largely a ‘free-standing story’ as far as Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne are concerned.

“We definitely had to deal with the ramifications post Civil War,” he told Collider.

“That was crucial to Scott. And crucial to Hope. I mean it really is like fundamental in the jumping off point about what’s going on between the two of them at the start of this movie.

“Outside of that, what I’m really happy about is, we’re free to tell sort of our free-standing story.

“Once we establish that as the leaping off point, this thing is going on over here with huge personal stakes and huge other stakes that are really separate of what’s going on with Infinity War.

“So that again is something that was really, really, appealing to me. We have enough stuff to track in this movie without having to sort of keep up with the rest of what’s going on with that.”

Sadly, due to a little known football tournament taking place in Russia, we won’t get to see Ant-Man and the Wasp for a few weeks yet.

The movie is due in the US on July 3, but won’t arrive here until August 3, something of a bone of contention for its stars.

“They always do that,” Lilly told Empire.

“Then what happens is people just pirate the movie and they see it in the worst way possible, like some sh**ty version online, instead of going to a theater.

“They go in the end, but I don’t like that staggering. I’m really going to get to the bottom of this for you. I’m as pi**ed off about it as you are.”

Added Rudd: “I don’t understand. Let me see if we can maybe get the World Cup moved.”
