Melania Trump and Vogue editor, Anna Wintour have had a reportedly rocky relationship since the First Lady was “snubbed” for the Vogue cover.

It seems the designer gloves are off once again, after Anna Wintour dodged questions about Melania Trump’s fashion sense on The Economist’s podcast this week.

Instead, Vogue’s editor decided to gush about former First Lady, Michelle Obama, describing her as “the best ambassador this country could possibly have in many ways, obviously, way beyond fashion.”

Shade has well and truly been thrown.

Melania Trump was featured on the cover of Vogue in her wedding dress when she married Donald Trump in 2005.

However, she is yet to make it onto the cover as the First Lady, whereas Michelle Obama was on the cover three times during Barack Obama’s presidency.

Anna Wintour was asked about Melania Trump’s wardrobe during her recent visit to the UK, but Wintour chose instead to talk about Michelle Obama.

“I think first lady Michelle Obama really was so incredible in every decision she made about fashion,” she responded. “She supported young American designers. She supported designers, indeed, from all over the world. She was the best ambassador this country could possibly have in many ways, obviously, way beyond fashion.”

“But she’s not the first lady now. So what about the one you’ve got now?” Interviewer, Anne McElvoy asked.

“To me she [Obama] is the example that I admire.” Wintour replied.

When asked if she would ever give fashion advice to the President, Wintour said it was “unlikely” that he’d call.

People on Twitter were quick to acknowledge the “shade” thrown.

“They wanted Anna Wintour to acknowledge Melania and Anna was like NAH.” One user wrote.

Another wrote: “Anna Wintour allowing you to finish your question for her to continue to disregard it is an energy I would like to exhibit.”
