Anna Kendrick and Aubrey Plaza Show Zac Efron and Adam DeVine How to Party in 'Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates' Trailer

The first trailer for Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates makes the crass summer comedy look like a Frankenstein’s Monster of recent drunken goofball classics. Think Wedding Crashers meets Bridesmaids, with characters from Neighbors and Comedy Central’s Workaholics — which, taken together, is a pretty potent brew.

The movie, written and directed by Funny or Die vet Jake Syzmanski, stars Zac Efron and Adam DeVine as two wild and crazy bros who must find dates to their sister’s wedding (the title of the movie is pretty expository). The idea is that having dates will keep them from their usual drunken shenanigans at family gatherings in exotic locations (this time, it’s Hawaii). And kudos to them, as they do make an honest attempt at complying with their dad’s wishes, even somehow getting themselves on Wendy Williams’ talk show to get the word out.

The appeal works, and they wind up with dates, but the twist is that the two women — played by a super-team of Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick — are even wilder than they are. The trailer is filled with their shenanigans, from drunken porn watching to insane ATV stunt driving, with plenty more promised. It’s exciting to see the usual comedy roles reversed, a wrinkle that makes the film’s July 8 release date seem very far away.
