Animators plead for netizens not to boycott "Hayop Ka!"

28 Sep – Local animators are pleading for netizens to not boycott the upcoming animated feature, "Hayop Ka!" because of Robin Padilla's involvement in it.

As reported on Push, several animators including animation director Kevin Kalbo, stated that Padilla, who is one of the voice actors for the project, does not represent the movie as a whole and thus should not be the reason to boycott a team's whole work.

"If I was the only one to follow, I would auto-eject it right away. But alas, I am just a humble animator. Support the artists who have worked hard on this project. They are the real heroes here," he added.

Kalbo stated that while he couldn't speak on behalf of the studio nor could he force anybody not to boycott the project, he does hope that people will realise that the animators could be affected by such action in the end.

In a previous interview, its director Avid Liongoren stated that the animated feature took over three years to develop, and that one of the main objectives was to encourage local animation production and hopefully create more of these projects in the future.

Padilla, a firm supporter of President Duterte, has sparked the anger of many netizens lately for his defense of the president, even expressing his support for Duterte's decision to grant absolute pardon to US Marine Lance Corporal Joseph Scott Pemberton who had killed transwoman Jennifer Laude.

Among artistes who have lent their voices to "Hayop Ka!", which will be streaming on Netflix, include Angelica Panganiban and Sam Milby.
