Angry Bird Sequel Is In The Works

In case you were wondering how well the ‘Angry Birds’ movie did, the answer it seems is ‘rather well’, as it’s prompted a sequel.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the game’s developers are moving forward with a follow up to the animated film released earlier this year.

Rovio’s Chief Executive Kati Levoranta confirmed that fans would see a sequel to the popular mobile game that spawned its first movie in May, which went on to take a tidy $347 million in ticket sales from a modest $73 million budget.

Levoranta spoke positively about the Angry Birds franchise in general, emphasising both its strengths and bright future.

“With the excellent performance of our games portfolio and the fantastic movie, the Angry Birds brand is flying high and we are seeing positive EBIT and cash flow development, while fulfilling our mission to create world class entertainment.”

And without going into any detail also confirmed the next film is on its way, but what stage in development it’s at we’re not sure.

“We currently have several exciting new games and other projects in development, including new IP, and we have started planning the sequel to ‘The Angry Birds Movie.’”

Sony will be aware of how lucrative the franchise is and that more movies will equate to more profits, but there’s surely only so much of ‘Angry Birds’ fans can take before it becomes stale.

Let’s hope developers of future films and games manage to breathe new life and innovation into it so it can continue to prosper over the coming years.
