Angelina Jolie's Khmer movie to debut in Siem Reap

13 Jan – Previously, it was reported that "First They Killed My Father", a Netflix original movie directed by Angelina Jolie, will be making its premiere in Cambodia. Now there is a date to go with the news.
It was revealed by Cambodian filmmaker Rithy Panh, a long-time friend of the Hollywood actress, that the movie will be released in the country next month, according to The Phnom Penh Post.
The movie's premiere will be held in Siem Reap on 18 February 2017.
Panh did not divulge further details related to the venue and the time of the screening event.
"First They Killed My Father", an upcoming biographical historical thriller film written by Jolie and Cambodian-born American human-rights activist Loung Ung, is based on Ung's memoir of the same name.
Ung's memoir details the violence and the brutality of the Khmer Rouge along with her personal experience in surviving the bloody regime.

Filming for the movie was done last year, taking place in Battambang, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
Around 500 Cambodians were employed as extras while Sareum Srey Moch plays Ung herself, and Phoeung Kompheak and Sveng Socheata star as her parents.
It was stated that "First They Killed My Father" will be making its Cambodian debut seven months prior to releasing on Netflix. While Netflix has confirmed that the Khmer movie is part of its 2017 line-up, it has yet to receive a set release date.
