Angelina Jolie In Talks To Star In TriStar’s ‘Shoot Like A Girl’
EXCLUSIVE: Angelina Jolie is in early talks to star for TriStar in Shoot Like a Girl. The film is an adaptation of Shoot Like A Girl: One Woman’s Dramatic Fight In Afghanistan and on the Home Front. That is an upcoming memoir by Air Force Major Mary Jennings Hegar, who served three tours in Afghanistan as a rescue helicopter pilot and transported hundreds of soldiers off the battlefield in hot zone areas. During one of those tours, her helicopter was shot down in the midst of a rescue mission. She got shot by the Taliban, but battled through her injury to save the three Americans she had been sent to rescue, along with her own team. They got out of there in a daring and death defying escape. Beyond her battlefield heroics that included winning the Purple Heart and becoming only the sixth woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross, Hegar successfully waged and won an important battle on U.S. soil: She sued the Department of Defense over the Combat Exclusion Policy that kept women from direct combat. The policy was ruled unconstitutional as a result, and was repealed. The Penguin Random House imprint Berkley Caliber will publish the book May 7, 2017.
The Gotham Group is producing the film, and Nicole Brown brought in the book and is overseeing it with TriStar president Hannah Minghella. Frank Baldwin wrote the script and they will try to make Jolie’s deal and then set a filmmaker and fast track this.
Jolie hasn’t done an action turn in a while; the last were Salt and The Tourist, before she moved on to the directing vehicles In The Land Of Blood and Honey, Unbroken and By The Sea, as well as Maleficent, which has a sequel percolating. She’s repped by UTA, Media Talent Group and attorney Robert Offer.
