Angelina Jolie Rents Malibu House From ‘X-Men’ Director Bryan Singer

OWNER: Bryan Singer
RENTER: Angelina Jolie
LOCATION: Malibu, CA
SIZE: 4,409 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms plus 1-bed/1-bath guesthouse

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Within days of news that Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, celebrity gossip juggernaut TMZ reported that the Oscar-winning “Maleficent” star packed up the couple’s half of a dozen children and decamped the family’s heavily fortified compound in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles for a rented residence about 45 miles away on a high bluff in the Point Dume area of Malibu.

The ocean-view property, owned by “X-Men” writer/director/producer Bryan Singer who bought it in December 2010 for $8.5 million, is hidden behind high gates and privately enshrouded in a thicket of tropical landscaping and mature shade trees. Privately positioned at the end of a long driveway and outfitted with a comprehensive home automation system, the Bali-inspired 4,409-square-feet residence, as four bedrooms and four bathrooms plus a separate one-bedroom and one-bathroom guesthouse perfect for housing Miz Jolie’s round-the-clock security detail. Interconnected living spaces in the main house include a foyer with open-tread floating staircase and ocean-view living and dining rooms separated by a double-sided fireplace. There’s also a modern kitchen that opens to a shaded dining terrace along the side of the house, a sky-lit office, a petite media lounge with state-of-the art equipment, and a well-stocked fitness room with vaulted and wood-beamed ceiling. The grounds offer tree-shaded gardens, sunny flagstone terraces, a swimming pool, and a private path that zigzags down the bluff to a sandy stretch of beach. We’re not sure exactly how much Miz Jolie pays for her interim housing situation but we did turn up digital evidence the property was available as a short-term luxury lease earlier this year with an asking price of $80,000 per month or on a nightly basis with a 7-night minimum stay at a rate that runs from $3,400-4,200 per night.

Together and separately, the exceptionally well compensated Hollywood royals — he’s on schedule to haul in around $31.5 million this year according to the bean counters at Forbes — maintain an international property portfolio that includes a small apartment in a prestigious building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan that Miz Jolie bought in 1997; an 11.5-acre oceanfront eco-compound near Santa Barbara that Mister Pitt scooped up for about $4 million when he was married to Jennifer Aniston; an historic mansion in the French Quarter of New Orleans they bought in late 2006 for $3.5 million and unsuccessfully tried to sell last year, first at $6.5 million and later at $5.65 million; and a 1,200-acre, village-like estate in the south of France they rented for several years before they bought it in 2012 from American businessman Tom Bove for a reported $60 million. Miz Jolie is also reported to own a home in Cambodia where her oldest son was born. As for Mister Singer, he owns a modest house in Studio City and three more less modest homes just above the Sunset Strip, two of them side-by-side and merged into one two-residence compound and another just down the street that was picked up in August 2014 for $3.1 million.
