Angelina Jolie is recovering after putting her body "through a lot" over the past decade.
The actress has had a tumultuous few years, becoming engaged to long-term partner Brad Pitt in 2012, tying the knot two years later, and then sadly separating in 2016.
And in a candid interview with Harper's Bazaar, Angelina revealed that the heartache has taken its toll on her physically and mentally.
"My body has been through a lot over the past decade, particularly the past four years," she explained, referencing her well-publicised break-up from the Hollywood actor. "I have both the visible and invisible scars to show for it. The invisible ones are harder to wrestle with. Life takes many turns. Sometimes you get hurt, you see those you love in pain, and you can't be as free and open as your spirit desires.
"It's not new or old, but I do feel the blood returning to my body."
The Oscar winner also opened up about her determination to inspire women to challenge themselves.
"I think the challenge is to ask yourself what you've always wanted to do and do it. Don't just be comfortable with what is generally accepted, but find the new," the 44-year-old urged. "Find your oxygen, your originality, your own voice. Live more fully. Rebel. Resist. Question. Be curious. Explore. Go outside what is comfortable to you. Say the thing you've been afraid to say."
Elsewhere in the interview, Angelina, who is mother to six children, touched upon the custody arrangement she and Brad have hammered out since their split.
"I would love to live abroad and will do so as soon as my children are 18. Right now, I'm having to base where their father chooses to live," she explained, hinting that the 55-year-old has requested she stay in the U.S. with their brood.
