Angelababy draws flak for not donating "enough" to Wuhan
30 Jan – It's the case of damned if you do, damned if you don't for Angelababy, who drew flak for supposedly donating a meagre amount towards the purchase of face masks for medical staff in Wuhan.
The actress and her husband, Huang Xiaoming, was recently revealed to have donated RMB 200,000 to the cause, as shared by the Siyuan Poverty Alleviation Fund who were thankful for their assistance.
However, netizens were not at all impressed by the donations, with some criticising the actress in particular - saying that Angelababy was donating what can be amounted to just "one luxury handbag".
One stated that the couple were able to spend millions for their wedding, and should have been able to donate more than that.
Soon after, the said fund revealed that both Huang and Angelababy had given an additional RMB 800,000 to the cause.
On the other hand, a number of celebrities have donated a huge sum of money to the help medical staff in Wuhan in dealing with the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus.
Stars like couple Michelle Chen and Chen Xiao as well as Cecilia Wu and Nicky Wu donated through Han Hong's Love Charity Foundation, which has now raised more than RMB 11 million, while Feng Shaofeng and wife Zanilia Zhao, Lang Lang and Gina have donated RMB 1 million each.
