Angel Locsin wants celebs to speak up on ABS-CBN issue

21 Jul – Angel Locsin recently urged fellow artistes to speak up rather than keep silent over the issue surrounding the shutdown of ABS-CBN and other problems related to politics.

As reported on Rappler, the actress who attended a protest held against the closure of ABS-CBN following the House committee voting against the franchise renewal, stated that it is not enough for celebrities to "post on Instagram" and "send sad emojis" when it is the employees jobs that are at stake - the same people who helped them get famous.

"I understand that celebrities like us are expected to stay quiet, to keep our image sweet, to stay neutral so we don't make enemies. But not speaking up means we're on the wrong side," she said.

Locsin also criticised the 70 lawmakers who voted against the renewal, saying that they were not destroying ABS-CBN's Chairman Emeritus Eugenio Lopez II and his family by doing so, but the people who work in the company.

"[The Lopez family] are not the ones who will die of hunger. It's the humble people! The employees that work, that voted for you. You took away their jobs. It's so unfair!" she added.
