Angel Locsin defends health workers against Duterte's tirade

6 Aug – Angel Locsin was one of the loudest voices in defending medical frontliners after President Rodrigo Duterte lashed out at them for airing their grievance on social media.

As reported on Push, the actress recently expressed her frustration on social media, saying that the president should give the frontliners his support instead of making threats.

"COVID is the enemy, not the people," she added.

In another Instagram Story, Locsin apologised to the frontliners for what they had experienced, adding, "I want all health workers to know that we are on your side. We will be extra careful so as not to be a burden to you. Please don't give up."

"We all love you. We're all supporting you. We need you. You are the heroes of this war. Thank you for the sacrifices you've done for us."

The "Darna" star was one of the many celebrities who have been active in helping frontliners since the start of the lockdown, from raising money for mass testing to building facilities for the use of doctors and nurses treating COVID-19 patients.

President Duterte earlier told health workers to do some "soul searching" and not to demean the government in response to their plea to revert Metro Manila to stricter lockdown following the resurgence of cases.
