Andrew Cripps Joining Fox As President Of International Theatrical Distribution

Respected industry veteran Andrew Cripps has been named President of International Theatrical Distribution at 20th Century Fox. The exec will join from Imax in January and oversee all strategic and managerial international theatrical distribution activities for the studio. He also will be involved with developing business opportunities in the offshore marketplace, including established territories as well as newer areas.

Cripps’ appointment follows the exit of Paul Hanneman as Fox’s Co-President of Worldwide Theatrical Marketing and Distribution, though this is not a direct replacement.

Cripps will report to Fox Film Chairman and CEO Stacey Snider and work closely with President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution Chris Aronson and International Productions President Tomas Jegeus on local-language production and distribution opportunities, with the aim of building long-term creative relationships in the Fox territories.

This is a strong hire for Fox of a smart and well-liked veteran with great global experience. Cripps currently is President of Imax International and is based in London. He will relocate to Los Angeles for the Fox post.

Cripps joined Imax in 2012 as President of Imax for Europe, Middle East and Africa, overseeing the company’s expansion of its theater network in those regions. He also worked closely with the Imax’s filmed entertainment division to identify international local-language distribution opportunities.

Prior to Imax, Cripps was President of Paramount Pictures International from 2007-11. Before that he was President and COO of United International Pictures. His international exposure includes 19 years in Japan as part of the UIP tenure.

“I have known Andrew since we worked together when I was at Universal Pictures and he ran United International Pictures, which distributed all of our pictures internationally,” Snider said. “He is not only an expert on the global distribution marketplace, but he is the consummate professional and an all-around great person. I can think of no one better to lead our world-class Fox international team.”

Said Cripps: “I have greatly enjoyed my time at Imax, but now I am really looking forward to this incredible opportunity with Fox and to be working with Stacey Snider again. As the international marketplace continues to grow, this is an auspicious time to be joining the studio. I am very excited to get started.”
