Amy Schumer’s ‘Barbie’ Casting Sparks Fat-Shaming Backlash
The internet is once again exploding with negativity, this time criticizing Amy Schumer‘s potential casting in a live-action “Barbie” film for Sony.
“If Barbie became obese and heinous to men, Amy Schumer is perfect,” tweeted one user.
“Barbie?? Better lose a lot of weight for that role!” tweeted another.

The movie is the first-ever live-action adaptation of the popular toy. It will follow the title character as she gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and ends up in the real world. The PG-rated movie is expected to hit theaters in the summer of 2018.
Hilary Winston came up with the story and wrote the screenplay, but Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, are expected to rewrite. The film does not yet have a director attached.
Some fans were quick to rush to Schumer’s defense, however,
The ONLY way I'd watch a movie about Barbie is if @amyschumer was starring in it.

Schumer has responded to fat-shaming trolls in the past. In March, Schumer posted a swimsuit picture on Instagram in an effort to bait and then lambaste body shamers.
“I meant to write ‘good morning trolls!'” she wrote. “I hope you find some joy in your lives today in a human interaction and not just in writing unkind things to a stranger you’ve never met who triggers something in you that makes you feel powerless and alone. This is how I look. I feel happy. I think I look strong and healthy and also like miss trunchbull from Matilda.”
