He saw him from among a sea of faces in the audience for his play – and Singaporean actor-singer Caleb Goh knew that he was the one.

Goh, who is based in the United States, married his partner recently in San Diego last year. He posted photos of the wedding ceremony and reception on Twitter for the first time on Wednesday (7 March).

The 40-year-old was a familiar face in TV, film and stage productions in Singapore before he left for the US in 2002 to further his education and career. He has starred in local films like Forever Fever and The Teenage Textbook Movie, and musicals such as Mr Beng. He also appeared in local television shows such as Masters of the Sea and Growing Up.

Goh, who currently works as an arts educator, shared with Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore how he met his partner while performing in Singapore.

“I met (my husband) in Singapore while performing in a play called Asian Boys for W!ld Rice,” Goh said. “He was in the audience and I was performing. After the show, I walked out of the dressing room and introduced myself to him. Before we knew it, five years have gone by.”

Goh married his partner, who declined to be named for this story, on 16 December last year in the historic Presidio Park in San Diego, California.

“My husband moved to California to pursue his studies and is currently a research analyst. I have spent the last 16 years in California so he pretty much moved to start our lives together here in the US,” he said.

Although Goh worked and lived primarily in the United States for 11 years, he returned in recent years to act in productions including Jack and the Bean-Sprout and Rising Son. He was also a lecturer in musical theatre at LASALLE College of the Arts from 2013 to 2015.

Goh is the first person from Singapore to receive a doctorate in musical theatre and is currently a drama programme director at St Margarets Episcopal School in Orange County in California.
